Figure Management

Patent figures are essential for explaining your invention visually. PatentPublish provides tools to create and manage SVG-based figures.

Figure Gallery

The Figure Gallery appears below your patent content and shows all figures:

  • Thumbnail View: See all figures at a glance
  • Edit Titles: Click to edit figure titles and descriptions
  • Reorder: Drag and drop to reorder figures
  • Delete: Remove unwanted figures

Creating Figures

Method 1: AI Generation

Let AI create figures based on your patent content:

  • Select sections related to the figure
  • In AI Panel, set Figure Mode to "Generate New Figures"
  • Choose diagram format (Graphviz recommended)
  • Generate content
  • Review and accept the figures
  • Method 2: Figure Lab

    Use the dedicated Figure Lab for advanced editing:

  • Click "Figure Lab" in the navigation
  • Select a patent to work with
  • Create figures using:
  • - JSON schema editor

    - Graphviz DOT code

    - Visual node editor

    Method 3: Import SVG

    Upload existing SVG files:

  • Open Figure Gallery
  • Click "Upload SVG"
  • Select your file
  • Edit title and description
  • Figure Best Practices

    Reference Numbers

    Use consistent reference numbers throughout:

    • "processor 102"
    • "memory 104"
    • "display 106"

    Numbers should appear in figures AND detailed description.

    Figure Types

    Common patent figure types:

    • Block Diagrams: System architecture
    • Flowcharts: Process steps
    • State Diagrams: System states
    • Schematics: Circuit or mechanical details

    USPTO Requirements

    • Figures must be in black and white
    • Text must be legible
    • Reference numbers required
    • Each figure needs a descriptive title

    Brief Description Auto-Update

    When you edit figure titles, PatentPublish automatically updates the "Brief Description of Drawings" section to match.
