Version History

PatentPublish automatically tracks all changes to your patent, allowing you to review history and restore previous versions.

Automatic Versioning

Every significant change creates a version:

  • Manual saves
  • AI-generated content acceptance
  • Figure changes
  • Metadata updates

Viewing History

  • Click the History icon (clock) in the sidebar
  • See list of all versions with:
  • - Timestamp

    - Change description

    - Figure count

    Restoring a Version

  • Open Version History
  • Click on a version to preview
  • Click "Restore" to revert to that version
  • Confirm the restoration
  • Note: Restoring creates a new version, so you can always undo.

    Undo/Redo

    For quick changes during editing:

    • Undo: Click ⟲ or press Ctrl+Z
    • Redo: Click ⟳ or press Ctrl+Y

The counter shows: "3/7" means you're at version 3 of 7 total.

    Figure Backups

    Figures have separate backup protection:

    • Automatic backup before AI operations
    • Restore figures independently from content
    • View backup history in Figure Backups panel

    Best Practices

  • Save Before Major Changes: Manual save before using AI
  • Descriptive Names: AI operations include change descriptions
  • Regular Backups: Export DOCX periodically as external backup
  • Review Before Restore: Preview the version before restoring
